Quest’anno
Come
passerà sotto silenzio come molti altri anniversari precedenti.
sino a noi.
Ecco
A
cosa abbiamo pensato?
No. La nostra idea di
film riguarda un periodo ben
preciso, poco analizzato ma in compenso assai
chiacchierato, spesso a sproposito: la sua morte.

This year, 70 years have passed since the death of
Manrico "Pippo" Ducceschi. As always, in these cases, we have
had a generic promise, from the institutions of Pistoia and Lucca, that
this date will not pass in silence like many other previous
anniversaries. Beyond this, however, still nothing concrete, as a
proposal, has come down to us.
But, as we have become accustomed to our readers
who, we assure you, are not few and above all not only from Italy but
from different parts of the world, primarily the States, ie the only
country that recognized the military value of the Commander glorifying
with the Bronze Star Medal while the Italian Government, after having
expired all the possible options, remains permanently silent to what,
instead, should have been one of its priorities given the high value of
Pippo, well, we said, to us creativity and ideas are not lacking and so,
after keeping Pippo's memory alive with articles in newspapers and web
pages, we are now thinking of something much more incisive.
Hence, borrowing the words of Martin Luther King, "I have a dream ...", we too have our dream in the drawer. I dream that we do not know if we can ever achieve, at the moment we are laboriously moving in that direction, but already the first are flapping, even sensible for charity, attempts at dissuasion. But we are undeterred and as has happened with the question of the medal, which we have not been able to obtain, but that at least we have succeeded in bringing to light the absurd motivation with which this, already in the beginning, has been miserably denied, this time we will use all our energy to do everything possible so that the dream becomes reality.
What
have we thought about? To the making of a film about Manrico. But not a
historical film, which analyzes that difficult period of our history:
let's leave for that the task, if anything there will be, to some
historians who delight even in the cinema. No. Our idea of film concerns
a very precise period, little analyzed but on the other hand much
talked about, often inappropriately: his death.
Of course, we would like to involve those who know
more about cinema than us, and so our appeal to directors, screenwriters,
editors and above all producers because a film needs first of all someone
who intends to produce it. The story ranges between Lucca and Pistoia and
maybe it could also affect these two cities finally come forward to make
what is possible, for now, an idea maybe a bit 'crazy, but that is
motivated by the affection and a genuine need of truth.
This intervention will then be placed also in
English because, experience docet, if ever help will come, it will be
easier by the U.S.A. that not from Italy, as it happened, to our surprise,
when first the writer James McBride wrote the novel and then the director
Spike Lee made the film "Miracle at St. Anna" which was in fact
inspired by the adventurous events of Pippo
and at his death, in spite of the fact that in this work a very
imaginative version is given, even though inspired by real events.
Even if it were only a dream, however, it will
comfort us to see how much affection still today, after 70 years since its
disappearance, Manrico still arouses in those who have heard of him, as
unfortunately who has really known it is almost no longer with us. And if
we can achieve this dream, it will be our way of saying "thank you!"
to them.
